Myn is recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated Qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our long-term partner’s Hearing Impairment Service in the West Midlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a supportive and inclusive environment, helping secondary-aged students with hearing impairments access the curriculum and thrive in their education.
What You’ll Do:
Provide specialist teaching and support for deaf students within the Listen and Learn Centre (LLC) and mainstream settings.Ensure that the individual needs of deaf pupils are met, supporting their access to the National Curriculum.Work closely with families and school staff to develop effective teaching and learning strategies.Assist in the day-to-day management of audiological equipment and ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed.Collaborate with the Teacher-in-Charge to assess, plan, and implement tailored support for deaf pupils.Deliver INSET training to colleagues on deaf awareness and best practices for inclusion.Support deaf students through key transitions, ensuring that families are well-supported during these times.What We’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Mandatory Teacher of the Deaf qualification.Experience working with secondary-aged students with hearing impairments in inclusive settings.Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and the Equality Act.Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, parents/carers, and mainstream colleagues.Competence in managing personal hearing aids and radio aids.Minimum BSL Level 1 qualification, with a commitment to further professional development.Experience in devising Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and contributing to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).Personal Qualities:
Strong interpersonal skills, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of pupils and families.A proactive team player, committed to inclusion and creating a ‘deaf friendly’ environment.Confident in delivering INSET sessions and advising others on the educational needs of deaf students.Well-organised with excellent time management skills.Calm and approachable, able to lead by example and support others in their roles.Why Join Us?
